A federal appeals court has rejected an attempt by overseas satellite companies to delay the Federal Communications Commission's C-band auction. The companies' case will proceed, but the auction will begin Dec. 8 as planned.

Colley Hwang, president of DigiTimes, says China's domestic semiconductor industry will benefit from the implementation of 5G, artificial intelligence/internet of things and electric vehicles. China will play a critical role in the EV market, since six of the 10 leading suppliers of EV batteries are based in China, he notes.

Verizon will likely bid a significant amount for 3.5 GHz spectrum from the Citizens Band Radio Service, analysts believe, citing the carrier's lack of low- and mid-band frequencies and its recent addition of transmitters. "They have already deployed thousands of antennas that support 3.5GHz and now will light up that spectrum as an added capacity layer," said ACG Research's Chris Nicoll.

T-Mobile agreed to network speed targets and job creation requirements in California as conditions of its merger with Sprint, but now wants the state's Public Utilities Commission to release it from those commitments. California lacks the authority to enforce hiring requirements, the pandemic has changed the employment landscape and the original documents should have allowed the company two more years to reach 300 Mbps over most of the region, T-Mobile argued yesterday.
