Hundreds of high-school students each year enroll in South Texas College's dual-enrollment programs, where they can earn associate degrees and high-school diplomas. Despite prolonged school closures, Crawford County Career and Technical Center in Pennsylvania recently celebrated 24 graduates who already have secured jobs. The students participated in the school's cooperative education programs, and despite the economic challenges caused by the coronavirus outbreak, nearly half of students enrolled in the programs landed full-time employment.
A high school in Oregon is preparing to offer the state's third high-school cosmetology program. The career and technical education course is being offered after it topped a survey as the most requested CTE program.

The economic downturn related to the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with changes to the oil market, could spark a call for job training in Texas. The state's community colleges likely will be at the helm of that effort and are preparing to expand access to short-term credentials and workforce skills training in in-demand fields.
Hershey CEO Michele Buck has successfully led the company by identifying growth markets and knowing how to pull teams together to facilitate positive change, said former Hershey executive Mike Wege. General Motors and Honda's facility exploring fuel cell fuel stacks is making hand sanitizer for workers and nearby health care facilities. The effort includes other companies who are helping with bottling and have donated packaging.
La-Z-Boy is resuming manufacturing after temporarily closing factories and retail stores around the country in March. Factories are expected to be at about 80% of last year's production levels by next month, CEO Kurt Darrow said.
