Fascinating interview with Michael Prime, bioelectrical composer, filmmaker, botanist, ecologist.
We take a walk around his unique gardens on Cape Clear Island. Here he has collected and nurtured plants from all over the world, often now endangered in their natural habitats. Michael is of course also well known for his long and successful musical career and we aim to analyse the cross fertilisation between these two deep passions of his.
Since 1987, he has used of bioactivity translators to amplify the electrical activity of plants and fungi. This has been central to much of his work. Through the medium of sound, listeners are able to enter and interact with the transient world of plant reactions.
Cape Clear a unique location for plants and ex-situ biodiversity, with Michael Prime

Ambre Soubiran, CEO of Kaiko, joins the show this week to talk about how the pioneers of crypto and blockchain laid the foundation for the transformation of capital markets, Kaiko's role beyond crypto as a financial market data provider…and the best route for sailing across the Atlantic!
This episode is kindly sponsored by Ireland's fintech and financial services recruitment specialists, Top Tier Recruitment. If you would like an intro to the team at Top Tier Recruitment, please click here.

Kaiko was founded in 2014 and is now a market data provider in the blockchain-based digital assets space, providing institutional investors and market participants with enterprise-gradedata infrastructure. In this episode, Ambre talks through the intersection and merging of Kaiko's story with her personal story – see below for some of the best soundbites:
On her entry point to the crypto and blockchain space: "In 2012, for me, it was a refreshing new venture, I was going to these really random bitcoin meetups in these underground venues on Brick Lane in London, it was really sketchy at the time, but in a good way. It was really smart people that were inspired and changing the world and doing so in a technological and mathematical way that were really close to my heart."
On thinking about crypto differently: "Bitcoin is very often perceived as a "crypto-anarchist revolutionary-against-institutions" mindset, which is indeed the genesis of it, but not everyone is like that, and I think it was more about challenging the status quo and re-thinking the notions of money, and that's what I really liked about those meetups.”
On dispelling market rhetoric: “Banks definitely don’t ignore blockchain anymore, but I was trying to push it at a time when they weren’t ready for it yet. But the "blockchain-good-crypto-bad" mindset frustrates me a little bit, because what makes a blockchain work are the consensus and incentivization mechanism.
If you don't have a unit of value, i.e., a cryptocurrency or token, that incentivizes people to maintain the network in a decentralised way tied to a blockchain, you’re missing out on the main points of what makes a blockchain work.”
On knowing your target investors: “If you're a founder in the blockchain or crypto space, and you have to spend the first 15 minutes of a 30-minute pitch to a VC explaining blockchain and crypto, you're in the wrong meeting.”
On the capital markets: “The capital markets industry is definitely less creative than it used to be, and that's one of the things that drove me to crypto is that there's still so much room to build.”

Bio: Ben Goertzel is a leading world recognised authority in artificial intelligence research, inventor and serial entrepreneur. Ben is a deep thinker and also a man of action as the founder and CEO of SingularityNET, the Chairman of OpenCog Foundation, the Chairman of Artificial General Intelligence Society, the Chief Scientist of Mozi Health and Vice Chairman Humanity+ Goertzel is the chief scientist and chairman of AI software company Novamente LLC; chairman of the OpenCog Foundation; and advisor to Singularity University.

[2] He left high school after the tenth grade to attend Bard College at Simon’s Rock, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Studies.
[3] Views on AI In May 2007, Goertzel spoke at a Google Tech talk about his approach to creating Artificial General Intelligence. He defines intelligence as the ability to detect patterns in the world and in the agent itself, measurable in terms of emergent behavior of “achieving complex goals in complex environments”.
A “baby-like” artificial intelligence is initialized, then trained as an agent in a simulated or virtual world such as Second Life to produce a more powerful intelligence.[7] Knowledge is represented in a network whose nodes and links carry probabilistic truth values as well as “attention values”, with the attention values resembling the weights in a neural network.
Several algorithms operate on this network, the central one being a combination of a probabilistic inference engine and a custom version of evolutionary programming Ben Goertzel’s focus these days is the SingularityNET project (http://singularitynet.io), which brings AI and blockchain together to create a decentralized open market for AIs.
It’s a medium for the creation and emergence of AGI, a way to roll out superior AI-as-a-service to every vertical market, and a way to enable everyone in the world to contribute to and benefit from AI. Ben’s passions are numerous, including AGI, life extension biology, philosophy of mind, psi, consciousness, complex systems, improvisational music, experimental fiction, theoretical physics and metaphysics. For general links to various of Ben pursuits present and past, see his website http://goertzel.org

Positive experiences on a West Cork island Cape Clear with Gerardina Hartnett, local nurse & mother to four children, who describes what their experience of living on the island for a year was like. All four of her children went to local primary school on the island.
We learn more about her reasons for moving to Cape Island, West Cork, and raising a family and educating the children in an Irish speaking family and community.
Cape Clear Island has had a long positive tradition of families moving from all over the world, to raise their children in the safety and peace of a small friendly island in Roaring Water Bay, West Cork.
With the current global pandemic that is COVID-19, many people are assessing what the risks will be of sending their children back to schools in September.
Irish Tech News has been commissioned by the Cape Clear National School and Comhar na nOileán to help promote living and educating your children on Cape Clear Island while they lived on the island.
