you don't need cardio to lose fat

You can lose fat without doing cardio. More on this below, first this question I received...

### QUESTION ###
"Hello Mehdi I weigh 101kg height 5.6. I have never done gym but I'm embarrassed to take my shirt off due to my man boobs and belly. I want to loose weight especially around my belly and chest. Do you think stronglifts 5x5 without cardio help me to loose weight?"

*** MY ANSWER ***
Cardio or lifting weight won't make you lose a ton of weight by itself.

You may have seen those super-heavy powerlifters.

They're strong, lift a lot of weight but have big bellies.

So lifting heavy weights is by itself not enough to lose weight.

Then there are the "cardio-freaks".

They work the treadmill 6x/week for 1h until drenched in sweat.

And yet they aren't lean either and have zero muscles to show for.

That means cardio alone doesn't work to lose weight either.

Meanwhile I don't do much cardio.

My main thing is just to lift weights three times a week for about an hour.

And yet I've maintained my weight and stayed "lean" for the past 10 years...

... while I've seen A LOT OF people around me gain weight and get fat.

Guess why?

Because I EAT RIGHT and they don't.

Weight control is mostly about nutrition, not exercise.

Eat less than your body burns and you lose weight...

Eat the same amount your body burns to maintain...

Eat more than your body burns to to gain weight...

(burning more is impractical for busy people).

This is why your great grandparents didn't go to the gym to "stay fit".

If they saw you running in the streets, they'd probably have thought you just committed a robbery :-)

Now I agree they weren't sitting behind a computer eight hours a day, they were active.

But they also weren't eating all that processed junk people are eating now.

They were eating mostly whole foods and cooking it all themselves.

And so they avoided a lot of "excess" calories people eat today.

My point is: nutrition is the key to losing weight.

Cardio is fine to accelerate fat loss, but it's not enough by itself.

Lifting weights is more important because it prevents muscle loss and builds it.

That's what my apps help you with

Keep it simple.

P.S. I actually did gain weight the first couple of years. Started out "skinny-fat" weighting only 58kg/127lb. Gaind muscle by lifting weights, weighed 80kg/175lb at one point but without the belly fat.

After that my body-weight stabilized around 75-77kg/165-170lb with visible abs year-through. This by lifting weights only three times a week and without too much cardio or extreme "dieting".

Maintenance is easy :-)
