Convention hotels and others that rely on the large-meeting segment are less likely to recover until a coronavirus vaccine or effective treatment is available, analysts say. Some companies, such as Accor, have developed meeting- and event-oriented safety standards, while others are promoting hotel space for businesses that want to get rid of permanent offices and are partnering with local shops, restaurants and tour groups to boost midweek leisure travel.

The iconic Grand Hotel on Michigan's Mackinac Island welcomed guests on Sunday after a pandemic-caused delay, unveiling extensive precautions that made its 134th year of business possible. "We survived ... World War I, World War II, the Great Depression, the pandemic of 1918, so we figured out a way to do it and never closed our doors," said Bob Tagatz, the hotel's resident historian.
TripAdvisor traffic has seen a slight bump in June, but it's not enough to make up for a dismal April and May, when numbers unique user numbers were down a year-over-year 67% and 55%, respectively. The bulk of the company's revenue is based on per-click advertising.
